Bhubaneswar: The daily COVID caseload in the capital city shot up by over four times in as many days as 400 positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
The COVID cases, which had remained below 100 since New Year day, increased to 142 on Tuesday and 341 on Wednesday.
According to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), of the day’s cases, 362 patients are local contacts while 38 are from quarantine.
Of the local contact cases, a whopping 41 are from Patia, followed by 25 from Nayapalli, 14 each from Jaydev Vihar and Rasulgarh and 13 from Sundarpada.
As many as 93 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours while the number of deaths due to the COVID was 1,103 with one casualty reported during the period.
The active cases stood at 1,343 while total 1,24,854 people have been infected by the virus so far.
