Bhubaneswar: Police recovered the body of a newborn girl from a drain in the city on Friday.
According to reports, locals first saw the dead baby in the drain beside the road connecting Chandrasekharpur to Niladri Vihar and alerted police.
A police team reached the spot and also notified the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) about the matter. The baby’s body was sent to Capital Hospital for autopsy.
Police sources said they have lodged a case of unnatural death and were investigating whether the dead baby was dumped or if it died after falling into the drain. They are also searching for the parents.
Meanwhile, the locals suspected that someone might have abducted the baby from a hospital and demanded a thorough investigation.
