Sambalpur: The Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary attracted 16,000 visitors during 2021-22, setting a record. The figure is more than double of the previous financial year.
The eco-tourism destination attracted 7,000 visitors during 2020-21, generating Rs 85 lakh revenue.
During 2021-22, revenue of Rs 1.52 crore was generated from tourists. While 60 per cent visitors were from Odisha, rest were from 13 other states and some European nations.
Tourists flock the sanctuary and its adjoining 180 sqkm Hirakud Reservoir area in Bargarh district to see wildlife like Bisons, leopards, deer, chitals and sambars.
Around 90 per cent of the revenue generated is ploughed back to the local community and for sanctuary management.
