Bhubaneswar: Filmmaker Sanlisa Patel, who reportedly faced opposition during screening of her debut film ‘Pratha’ in Jharsuguda, began a dharna at Lower PMG here on Thursday, urging Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC) and the state government to promote and support the entertainment industry in the state.
She was soon joined by popular Ollywood actor Buddhaditya Mohanty, who was seen sitting next to her holding a placard.
Speaking to the media, Sanlisa said that she is seeking justice for the film industry and is hopeful that the current problems plaguing moviemaking in the state will be resolved soon. “I faced lots of problem in every phase while making the very first movie of mine. I have written to all departments and associations concerned in this regard. As the emails failed to elicit a response, I decided to stage a dharna to press for my demands,” she said.
Her demands include establishment of one cinema hall in each block, compulsory screening of Odia films in cinema halls and multiplexes, financial support for distribution and exhibition of films, waiving of tax on Odia films and financial assistance and government’s support to filmmaking.
“Producers, actors, technicians and directors will join the dharna from tomorrow,” she added.
