Koraput: Police on Sunday recovered the decomposed body of a man, who had gone missing about eight months back, from a hill in the district.
According to sources, Mohan Das, a contractor of Dumuribari village under Hatibari panchayat had gone missing on March 13. His family members had registered a missing complaint at Padua police station.
SDPO Sanjay Mohapatra said acting on the report, they started investigation and came to know that seven persons had hatched a conspiracy and killed Mohan. Of the accused, five have been arrested while two are absconding, he added.
The arrested persons confessed to the police that they had kidnapped and murdered the contractor. They also said one Siba Khara had planned the murder and paid them Rs 60,000 to commit the crime. They had packed the body in a gunny bag and buried it at Sanabari hill near the village.
“After the accused revealed where they had buried the body, we dug up the place and recovered the decomposed body. Tehsildar and Executive Magistrate were present at the spot,” said Mohapatra. The police also seized iron rod and other weapons used in the murder from the spot.
“As the body has been decomposed, we will send it for DNA test. It has already been sent for post-mortem. Mohan Das was a local leader and a contractor,” the SDPO added.
