Deep Depression Moves To Interior Odisha Close To Angul, To Weaken Soon

Bhubaneswar: The deep depression, which crossed the coast near Puri on Monday morning, moved further and is now positioned over interior Odisha close to Angul, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The deep depression over coastal Odisha moved northwestwards with a speed of 22 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered over interior region close to Angul, about 100 km northwest of Bhubaneswar, it said.

It is likely to move west-northwestwards across interior Odisha and weaken gradually into a depression by midnight of Monday.

Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards across north Chhattisgarh and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area around evening of Tuesday (September 10).
Earlier, the deep depression crossed Odisha coast close to Puri during 10.30 am-11.30 am on Monday.

Under its influence, Odisha is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain till September 11. The intensity of rain will be maximum on Monday and gradually decrease thereafter.

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph, prevailing over northwest and adjoining northeast & central Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coast, is likely to continue till noon. “It is likely to decrease, gradually becoming 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph by evening.” Similarly, Squally weather with wind speed is likely to become 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph by noon and decrease gradually thereafter becoming 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 Kmph by evening, it further said.

The IMD has issued red warning for ten districts and said heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20cm) at a few places with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Balangir, Boudh.

Heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20cm) may occur at isolated places in Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Sonepur, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Gajapati, where orange warning has been sounded.
