Deep Depression Over Bay In 12 Hours; Check Rain & Wind Warning For Coastal Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards and was about 590 km south of Paradip (Odisha), 740 km south of Digha (West Bengal), and 880 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh) at 8.30 am, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.

The MeT office further said that the system is likely to further intensify into a deep depression during next 12 hours and move northwestwards, and then recurve and move north-northeastwards during subsequent 3 days towards Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts.

The IMD has also forecast the system’s probable track and intensity of the system and is likely intensification into a cyclonic storm by October 24. If this system intensifies into cyclone, it will be called Hamoon, a name given by Iran.

Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds very likely over Kerala on October 22-23 and light to moderate rainfall at isolated places with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning over Tamil Nadu on October 22.

Coast districts of Odisha are also likely to experience light to moderate rainfall at a few places on October 23 and at many places on October 24-25.

In view of light to moderate rainfall activity over coastal districts, the weather agency has advised farmers to complete the harvest of matured paddy crops (early to medium duration variety) and vegetables before October 23.

Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely on October 23 and increase gradually becoming gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from October 24-25  over north Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts on October 24-25-26.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into westcentral Bay of Bengal till October 25 and along and off Odisha coast and north Bay of Bengal during October 24-26. Distant Cautionary Signal No-I (DC-I) have been hoited at all ports of Odisha.
