New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested three men for allegedly duping Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s daughter of Rs 34,000. The suspected mastermind Waris, though, is still on the run.
Ateam tracked down Sajid (26), Kapil (18) and Manvinder Singh (25) with the help of technical surveillance and picked them up from Bharatpur-Mathura border.
It was learnt that one of the accused had approached Harshita Kejriwal as a buyer on an e-commerce platform, where she had put up a sofa for sale.
“The three worked on commission basis for Waris. Manvinder got multiple bank accounts opened for Kapil and Sajid to use fake documents, for which he received a commission. The cheated amount was transferred to Waris’ account,” a police officer said.
Harshita was approached by a man who wanted to buy the sofa. To gain Harshita’s trust, the man transferred a small amount of money to her account to check if it was correct.
The man then asked Harshita to scan a QR code so that he could transfer the purchase amount. But, to her surprise, Rs 20,000 got deducted from her account, police narrated.
On enquiry, Harshita was told that a wrong QR code had gone out and another link was then sent to her. When she scanned the second one, Rs 14,000 was debited from the seller’s account.
An FIR was registered on February 7, following which police started probing the incident.
The police discovered that this gang has duped others in the past.
