New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has removed 223 employees from the Delhi Women’s Commission (DCW). It is alleged that AAP MP Swati Maliwal, made the appointments during her term as DCW chairperson in violation of the rules, according to an NDTV report.

Citing the Delhi Commission for Women Act, the LG’s order says that the panel has a sanctioned strength of 40 employees and that 223 new posts were created without the LG’s approval, adding that the commission does not have the authority to hire employees on contract. According to the order, the commission had been informed that it shall not take any step “which entails additional financial liability for the government” without the approval of the finance department.

The order further states that the probe had found that these appointments were not made according to laid down procedures. “Further, the enhancement of the remuneration and allowances to the staff of DCW was without adequate justification and in violation of the laid down procedures and guidelines,” it added.

Maliwal headed the DCW for nine years before entering Rajya Sabha as an AAP MP. The post of the panel’s chairperson is vacant at present.

The AAP and Maliwal are yet to respond to the allegations, NDTV reported.

The AAP has repeatedly accused the LG’s office of blocking its governance steps. Notably, the LG is appointed by the Central Government. The AAP has accused the ruling BJP of not allowing it to act freely.
