New Delhi: Crime Branch sleuths of Delhi Police on Monday evening carried out searches at the residence of editors of ‘The Wire’.

The searches are related to the FIR registered against the website following a complaint by BJP’s IT Cell head Amit Malviya, said a senior police officer.

ANI reported that crime branch officials were searching the residence of Siddharth Varadarajan and MK Venu, founder of ‘The Wire’.

Their phones and laptops have been seized.

Delhi Police on Saturday registered an FIR against the news portal and four of its journalists — Varadarajan, MK Venu, Sidharth Bhatia and Jahnavi Sen — on a complaint by Malviya accusing them of “cheating” and “forgery”.

Charges have been pressed under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery with purpose of cheating), 469 (forgery for harming reputation), 471 (using a forged document as genuine), 500 (defamation) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
