New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) data showed that the mean minimum temperature in Delhi in October this year was 17.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest since 1962.
The average minimum temperature of Delhi in October is 19.1 degrees Celsius.
The temperature had dipped to 12.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday, making it the lowest for October in 26 years.
IMD mentioned that the normal minimum temperature for October-end is usually around 15-16 degrees Celsius.
Absence of cloud cover is a major reason for low temperatures. Clouds trap outgoing infrared radiation from the earth and reflect it back, warming the earth.
The lowest all-time temperature recorded in Delhi in October has been 9.4 degrees Celsius on October 31, 1937.
