New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Sunday confirmed the first case of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in the capital, taking the total count of confirmed Omicron cases in India to five.
The patient, who returned from Tanzania, has been admitted to the designated Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, India Today reported.
“Until now, 17 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have been admitted to LNJP Hospital. Genome sequencing for twelve of these samples has been done. One out of the twelve samples had the Omicron variant,” Satyendar Jain informed on Sunday.
He added, “Flights should be stopped from countries affected by Omicron.”
So far, there are two cases in Karnataka, one in Gujarat and Maharashtra respectively.
