New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has issued notices to a several politicians, including Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and actress Swara Bhaskar on a plea to implead them as respondents in the 2020 Delhi riots case.
The court was hearing a petition seeking FIR against the Gandhis and others for allegedly delivering hate speeches before the north-east Delhi riots two years ago, The Indian Express reported.
The high court felt it was appropriate to issue notices to let them clarify whether they should be impleaded as party respondents in the writ petition.
Impleading is a procedure through which third parties can be brought into an ongoing litigation.
AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Amanatullah Khan, AIMIM leaders Waris Pathan and Akbaruddin Owaisi, Mehmood Pracha, Harsh Mander have also been issued legal notices.
Direction to register FIR against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has also been sought.
BJP leaders Kapil Mishra, Anurag Thakur, Parvesh Verma and Abhay Verma have been sent notices vis-à-vis a separate petition that has sought directions for registration of FIR against them.
