Bhubaneswar: Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro on Tuesday informed that the process to demolish 42 MLA quarters near the Odisha Assembly to pave way for construction of a multi-storey building will begin on Wednesday.
He further said that only 24 MLAs had so far vacated the allotted quarters. Notices have been served on the others, he added.
According to sources, the Speaker also reviewed matters related to construction of the proposed multi-storey building at the MLA Colony in his office chamber with Commissioner-cum- Secretary, Works Department, Krishan Kumar, Secretary of Odisha Legislative Assembly Dasarathi Satpathy and officials of the Works Department.
Director of Estates, Hemanta Kumar Padhy was also present.
Over Rs 400 crore will be spent on developing the vertical structure by demolishing a portion of the present MLA quarters to accommodate 140 members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. It will have modern facilities like community hall, kalyan mandap, multi-gym, space for morning walk and commercial establishments. The flats will be of type-VII category, the sources added.
