Berhampur: A woman who was left waiting at the marriage mandap by her groom resorted to a dharna in front of his house house at Brahma Nagar in Berhampur on Monday.
According to reports, the bride Dimple Dash and groom Sumit Sahu had legalised their wedding by signing the marriage certificate at a registrar’s office a few days back. They were to solemnise the marriage through customary Hindu rituals.
The marriage date was finalised for Monday but Sumit did not tun up at the mandap following which an angry and hurt bride staged a dharna in front of his house along with her mother.
She also accused the police of supporting the groom’s family after taking money from them and claimed to have proof of the allegations.
Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra said a case has been registered at Mahila police station basing on the woman’s complaint. Notices have been served to persons mentioned in the FIR.
The groom’s family has also filed a complaint against the bride’s family and a chargesheet has also been filed in the court over the same.
Asked about the alleged police inaction, Mishra said “When a case is sub-judice the role of the Police gets restricted. We will act as per the court’s direction.”
