Bhubaneswar: Opposition BJP on Tuesday targeted the state government in Odisha Assembly on diarrhoea deaths in Kasipur block of Rayagda district.
Raising the issue during zero hour in the House, BJP chief whip Mohan Majhi said the government is misleading the people on the casualty figure. While 14 people have died due to diarrhoea in Kasipur, the government has put the casualty at 9, he added.
“The government should order post mortem of the rest 5 people who have succumbed to the infection and clarify the reason of their death,” said Majhi.
Later, speaking at a presser, Majhi said consumption of contaminated water and unhygienic food are major causes of diarrhoea outbreak in the block. The people are deprived of minimum needs because of lack of facilities, he added.
Real picture is different from what the government is presenting. There are no drains and piped drinking water provision in the area. Every year, such a situation arises there. The government should come up with long term solution,” said Majhi.
