Petrol had already crossed the ‘milestone’. Now it’s the turn of diesel to hit a ‘century’.
For the first time in India, the price of diesel crossed Rs 100 per litre on Saturday. It’s at Rajasthan’s Ganganagar that diesel price soared to Rs 100.05 per litre, while petrol is at Rs 107.22 per litre, Hindustan Times reported.
Price of petrol increased by 27 paise per litre while diesel was costlier by 23 paise a litre at fuel station across the country after the latest rise in prices.
State-run oil companies hiked fuel rates for the 23rd time in 40 days. Since results of assembly elections in 4 states and a union territory were announced on May 2, petrol price has gone up by Rs 5.72 and diesel by Rs 6.25 per litre.
Apart from Ganganagar, petrol costs over Rs 100 per litre in cities like Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Parbhani, Aurangabad, Jaisalmer, Banswara, Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Guntur, Kakinada, Chikmagalur and Shivamogga.
In Delhi, price of petrol is currently Rs 96.12 per litre and diesel Rs 86.98 a litre. Retail prices of petrol and diesel differ because of variations in state taxes and local levies.
