Bhubaneswar: Naveen Patnaik, 0ne of the longest-serving chief ministers of any Indian state, holding the post in Odisha for over two decades, turned 76 on Sunday (October 16).
On the occasion, Secretary to CM VK Pandian shared a picture from a vintage album on Instagram and wrote: “CM the writer with his editor Jacqueline Kennedy, the former US first lady.”
Here are some more rare pictures of the CM shared by old friends and admirers:
Socialite
In 2019, columnist Tavleen Singh posted this portrait of three attractive people in their 20s, sporting the distinctive fashion of that era. “It was shot by my sister in Naveen’s house on Prithviraj Road, in 1977 or 1978,” Tavleen wrote about the gem in Hindustan Times.
“I worked in The Statesman as a reporter. Naveen was a glamorous socialite and Vasundhara, a young mother who had been forced to defend the Gwalior family during the Emergency along with her younger sister Yasho, while their mother was in jail and brother Madhavrao Scindia had escaped abroad to avoid arrest,” said Singh, adding, “Naveen’s father was also in jail and he was politically conscious, but at that point, if someone had said he would one day become CM of Odisha, he would have been declared nuts,” said Singh.
The prediction comes true!
