Bhubaneswar: Digi Yatra was made operational at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
Digi Yatra enables automatic digital processing of flyers with the benefit of reduced wait time and makes boarding process faster and seamless. It uses facial recognition technology to make terminal entry and security clearance at airport a seamless, hassle-free, and paperless process.
Faster movement to boarding gates, hassle-free travel, dedicated gates, enhanced security, and contactless travel experience are advantages of this facility. “Introduced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Digi Yatra Foundation, this platform is a significant step towards creating a digitally empowered society,” a BPIA official said.
At Bhubaneswar airport, 4 departures are equipped with e-gates for smooth usage of the facility.
“Besides, the Pre-embarkation Security Check (PESC) points are also equipped with e-Gates (to support Digi Yatra) and all 8 boarding gates are equipped face pods,” the official added.
HOW IT WORKS
>> Passengers will have to download Digi Yatra app on smart phones through Google Play Store and link it with their Aadhaar cards. The flyers can then upload their boarding pass on the app to avail digital services at the airport.
>> The face recognition device installed at the entrance takes the facial impression and matches the passenger’s face with the one uploaded in DigiYatra app with Aadhaar number within seconds. Once matched, the e-gate that is synchronised with the system opens, thus allowing the passengers in.
