Patna: The family rift in the Lalu Prasad Yadav household has escalated sharply, with his daughter, Rohini Acharya, making explosive new claims a day after she publicly severed ties with her family and quit politics.
Rohini says she was not only emotionally abused, but physically threatened — alleging that a slipper was raised to hit her during a confrontation with her brother, Tejashwi Yadav, and his close aides.
According to her, the confrontation followed her questioning of Tejashwi’s allies, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, over the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) devastating performance in the recent Bihar assembly elections.
“I have no family … ask Tejashwi, ask Sanjay Yadav, and Rameez. They are the ones who threw me out of the family,” she said, according to a Times of India report. She added that she was “disgraced, abused, and even hit” after raising uncomfortable questions.
Her grievances go deeper, centering on her past act of giving a kidney to her father, Lalu Yadav — a sacrifice she claims has since been verbalized as a transactional bargain. She says she was accused of “taking crores of rupees” in return, and that her selfless donation was dismissed, even insulted.
“A daughter … was humiliated, filthy abuses were hurled at her, a slipper was raised to hit her … I did not compromise on my self-respect … solely because of this, I had to endure this insult,” she said.
She further alleged she was “cursed at and told that I am dirty … that I got my father to have my dirty kidney transplanted into him, took crores … bought a ticket … and then got that dirty kidney put in.”
She said she left her parents and sisters behind, calling herself “orphaned” by the way she was forced out.
BJP political leaders have seized on Rohini’s accusations to attack the RJD, accusing the party of having a “patriarchal, anti-woman, and male-dominated mentality.”
At the same time, Rohini blamed Sanjay Yadav and Rameez for pushing her into this decision. “I’m quitting politics … I disown my family … This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do … and I’m taking all the blame,” she wrote on social media.
This is the latest in a string of public tensions: Rohini had earlier unfollowed RJD accounts and family handles on social media, signaling a deeper fissure long before today’s allegations.
