New Delhi: The Indian Railways has made changes to the flexi-fare scheme and even scrapped it completely in 15 trains.
The flexi-fares have been removed from 32 trains during the lean period of February, March and August.
On the recommendation of the review committee, Comptroller and Auditor General’s report, and representations from passengers, the Railways has also decided to change the maximum cap of such fares to 1.4 times from 1.5 times of the normal ticket prices.
A. Flexi-fare scheme has been removed from the following 15 trains as the average monthly occupancy was less than 50 per cent last year:
B. Flexi-fare dropped for following 32 trains for the lean months of February, March and August when average monthly occupancy was between 50-75 per cent last year.
C. If the class occupancy is less than 60 per cent, then a graded discount will be offered up to 20 per cent on last fare. To increase the occupancy of less patronised classes such as 2A, 3A and Chair Car, a graded discount of 20 per cent on last fare on all trains with flexi-fare and Humsafar Trains where occupancy of a particular class is less than 60 per cent will be given.
Further discounts will be given on:
For up to 70 per cent occupancy: 20 per cent discount on last fare
10 per cent discount on the last fare: 70-80 per cent occupancy
Above 80 per cent occupancy: No discount
The changes will be done on an experimental basis for six months now, and will be extended depending on response.
