Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has transferred 17 IAS officers, including the district magistrate of Hathras, few hours before ushering the New Year. The Hathras DM was under fire after a 19-year-old Dalit woman was gang-raped and murdered last year.
As per the government spokesman, Hathras District Magistrate Parveen Kumar Laxar, who was in the eye of the storm for the cremation of the woman at the dead of the night, was among the 11 district magistrates who got transfer orders in a reshuffle.
Laxar has been transferred to Mirzapur in the same capacity, reported news agency IANS.
Laxar also hit the headlines after the Allahabad High Court had expressed concern over the Uttar Pradesh government’s failure in taking action against him after the rape and murder of the Dalit woman.
