Mumbai: Rhea Pillai has won the domestic violence case against former partner Leander Paes.
A metropolitan magistrate court ruled that the former tennis star committed various acts of domestic violence against the model-actress. The order was passed earlier this month, reported PTI.
The court order directed Leander to pay a monthly rent of Rs 50,000, besides monthly maintenance of Rs 1 lakh to Rhea if the latter decides to leave their shared residence.
However, if Rhea chooses to continue living in their shared apartment at Bandra, she will not be entitled to monetary relief, magistrate Komalsing Rajput’s order specified.
Sanjay Dutt’s former wife Rhea had approached the court in 2014 seeking relief and protection under Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. Rhea submitted to the court that she was in a live-in relationship, akin to marriage, with Leander for eight years.
She claimed that Leander had caused her ‘verbal, emotional and economic abuse’, which resulted in ‘tremendous emotional violence and trauma.’
The magistrate said that with Leander’s tennis career ‘almost over’, it would cause ‘serious prejudice’ to order him to live in a rented home while also paying maintenance to Rhea.
Leander, who is currently in a relationship with actor Kim Sharma, has a daughter with Rhea.
Rhea’s first marriage was to Michael Vaz from 1984 to 1994. She then married Sanjay Dutt in 1998 but that marriage didn’t last long. Rhea then met Leander, but the duo didn’t exchange vows.
