Gynaecologist Dr S Padma has advised to put off pregnancy plans till coronavirus situation is contained. Even though COVID positive patients are delivering babies normally, newborns have extremely tender immunity systems and have a high chance contracting the infection.
Also, she pointed out that the stress and tension of the virus can adversely affect foetus development in a woman. There’s also the risk of contracting the virus at the time of delivery in hospitals or during hospital visits. Pregnant women have to maintain social distancing with family members.
There has been an increase in anxious queries from expecting mothers and those who have conceived.
Apart from social distancing, after the birth of the child, a woman must wear a mask while breast-feeding and observe other precautions, the doctor added.
It is recommended to keep doing mild exercises and staying mentally fit during pregnancy.
