New Delhi: Among doubling of major railway lines in Odisha, work on the Raipur-Titlagarh project is being expedited by the Ministry of Railways.
Of the 203 km stretch, between Titlagarh in Odisha’s Balangir district and Chhattisgarh capital Raipur, 173 km of doubling work has been completed.
Once the entire project is completed, it will improve port connectivity, transportation of coal and boost socio-economic development of Odisha and its adjoining states Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
The target date of completion of the project was 2017. But work got delayed as Chhattisgarh government refused to bear two-thirds of the cost as was initially agreed, the Railway ministry had said.
Once the issue was sorted out, there was a further delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But now, the project is nearing completion, with just 30 km of track remaining to be laid.
