Cuttack: Dr Jayant Panda, head of the department of medicine at SCB Medical College and Hospital, has been re-elected as the president of Cuttack Club here with a record 905 votes.
He defeated Bibhubhusan Mohanty, who could poll only 277 votes.
The other elected office bearers of the 158-year-old club are Basant Sahoo (vice-president), Jasobant Das (honorary secretary), Sanjib Sahu (joint secretary), and Satyasovan Nanda (treasurer).
Speaking to Odisha Bytes, Panda said that there are plans for expansion, considering the increasing club members, and space for the second campus will be finalised at CDA soon. “The club is located near Barabati fort, where no new construction can be done as per the Archaeological Survey of India rules. We need another plot of land for various activities,” he said.
He said that the club would focus on health camps and creating awareness on HIV and diabetes through rallies and walkathon under its corporate activities. “We plan to encourage members and their families to participate in health and fitness activities like swimming and gyming. Plans are also afoot to hold tournaments in table tennis, squash and snooker,” he added.
Last year, Panda had polled 588 votes against his nearest rival Sanjukta Mohapatra, who got 430 votes.
