New Delhi: Delhi Police on Saturday arrested a 49-year-old man for allegedly planting a bomb within the Rohini district court premises to kill his neighbour, who is an advocate.
As it turned out, the accused is a DRDO scientist, who had been engaged in a legal battle with the victim (advocate). A terror angle was being looked into, but has now been ruled out.
The accused has been identified as Bharat Bhushan Kataria, a senior police officer from the Special Cell told The Indian Express.
“We have sufficient evidence against him, including electronic evidence which shows his presence on the court premises. Now we are trying to find whether anyone else was involved,” the officer told TIE.
Eight days ago, a low-intensity explosion took place in the Rohini court. The device was kept in a black backpack that had been left by an unknown person.
While investigating the incident, police found out that Kataria’s advocate neighbour had filed a case of causing hurt against the former. In a recent hearing, the court fined Kataria Rs 1,000 for unnecessary adjournment.
It also came to light that the ‘victim’ stays in a property owned by Kataria in Ashok Vihar.
“The rivalry started between them around six years ago on the issue of installing a lift in the four-storey building. On December 20, there is a final argument in the case and charges should be framed against Kataria,” informed a police officer.
