Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have launched a drive against use of tinted glass in vehicles in the Odisha capital.

According to traffic police sources, checking is on for any alteration made to a vehicle, including use of black films on windscreens or safety glasses, for the last two days. It is being enforced jointly by traffic police and RTO.

Besides removing the films, owners of four-wheelers are fined in the range of Rs 500 to Rs 5,000 for the offence under Section 177 of Motor Vehicles Act. Those without a driving licence have to pay a penalty up to Rs 10,000, an ACP said.

Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Panda said that black films are often used by people involved in criminal activities and drug trade and addiction. With elections around the corner, such vehicles can also be used for illegal transport of liquor, drugs and cash, he added.
