Hyderabad: ‘Medicine from the Sky’, a first-of-its-kind project in India, was launched by Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia here on Saturday.

The aim of the project is to transport vaccines and essentials to remote areas using drones.

Scindia hoped that this initiative of the Telangana government will serve as kick-off for a drone revolution in India.

Saying that air taxies and sky taxies are the future of the country, the Union minister expressed hope that India will become the world’s ‘drone capital’ by 2030.

The project is part of India’s first organized Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) trials with multiple drone consortiums participating to establish the use-case of long-range drone-based medical deliveries.

The ambitious initiative is spearheaded by the state government’s Emerging Technologies wing of ITE&C Department, in partnership with World Economic Forum and NITI Aayog and Health Net Global of Apollo Hospitals.

Scindia announced a 100-day plan to deal with 16 issues related to airports and heliports, policy and reforms for civil aviation sector.
