Bhubaneswar: Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi of Odish’s twin cities has expressed concern over use of online food delivery platforms by drug smugglers.
Speaking at a state-level meeting organised by the Bharat Nisha Mukta Abhiyan Committee in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, Priyadarshi said with the police tightening the drive against drug menace, the users and peddlers have devised a new method of transportation of the contraband.
Since the online food delivery platforms do not check the contents of the parcels or packets to be delivered, the peddlers find it a convenient means to send the drugs. With the online platforms spreading the area of their network, the outskirts of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have also become accessible for the drug peddlers, he added.
Stating that the drug abuse has spread from colleges to schools, the Commissioner stressed awareness drive for the students to keep the menace away. The increasing seizure of drugs in the twin cities is a pointer in this regard, he added.
