Bengaluru: A 27-year-old Odia youth, who was in an inebriated state, was thrashed to death allegedly by two security guards at an apartment in Bengaluru after they mistook him for a thief. The security guards have been arrested, police said on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Abhinash Pathi, who was from Odisha and worked at a bank in Chhattisgarh.
The arrested guards were identified as Shyamnath Ray (24) and Ajith Mura (24).
According to police, the incident took place on July 5.
According to HAL police, Pathi had come to Bengaluru for training. After partying with his friends on July 4 night in Marathahalli in Bengaluru, he started for his friend’s place where he was staying. He had stored the address on his cellphone, according to reports.
After the mobile got switched off, at about 2 am, Pathi entered a wrong address — the Vamshi Citadel Apartment located in Marathahalli — by jumping over the gate, police said.
Mistaking him to be a thief, the security guards hit his head with an iron rod. Pathi died on the spot.
