Bhubaneswar: More than 20 police personnel in the Odisha capital had a narrow escape as a drunk man driving an SUV rammed the vehicle into several police barricades and allegedly tried to run over the cops while they were trying to stop him.
According to sources, police personnel deployed at OMFED Square were checking the vehicles when a speeding SUV came from Damana Square side and rammed through the barricades. When the police personnel on duty tried to stop him, he tried to run over them.
There were more than 20 police personnel, including Deputy Commissioner Police (DCP) Traffic and Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) on duty then. They had a narrow escape while the SUV driver smashed the checkpost and also dragged a barricade stuck under the SUV.
Police efforts to stop him failed as he quickly escaped driving through narrow arterial roads and lanes.
He is yet to be traced and police are checking security cameras installed at multiple locations to nab him.
