Bhubaneswar: The day temperature rose sharply in most parts of Odisha on Monday as the southwest monsoon changed its course a day after hitting the Odisha coast on June 21.
After a delay of 12 days, the monsoon had arrived in Odisha triggering moderate to heavy rain in 21 districts. Besides, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted normal monsoon in the state.
“The rainfall activity was on till last 24 hours and there will be isolated sporadic rainfall at one or two places in the state. Though the monsoon is active in Odisha, it has relatively weakened after changing its course and is currently moving through central India. Under its influence, the dry spell will continue for the next five days up to June 29 after which the state will receive normal rainfall,” director of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Dr HR Biswas, told the media here.
According to IMD’s evening release, barring Sambalpur (13.2 mm), Koraput (16.2 mm) and Malkangiri (31 mm), there was no rainfall in the remaining areas of Odisha on Monday which resulted in the sharp rise in the day temperature by 3-4 degree Celsius.
The release, however, has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Sambalpur districts on June 29.
