Cuttack: Odisha Police Service (OPS) probationers of 2015 batch on Saturday called on DGP Dr RP Sharma to the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack for their practical training.

As many as 14 OPS probationers (directly recruited DSPs) who are at the end part of their training had an interactive session with the DGP.

During the interaction, Dr Sharma called upon the officers to be diligent, dutiful, sincere and serious towards their profession and rise to the expectations of the public in the delivery of services.

He said the police have to face new challenges in the field. “There have been sea changes in the duties a policeman performs today. The duty of a police officer is no longer confined to law and order and crime management,” he said.

He also said that because of technological advancement, old ways of crime investigation has lost its value. The police now adopt scientific methods of investigation in difficult cases like cyber crime and economic offences. “All police officials have to be highly professional and technologically sound while discharging their duty on the field,” the DGP said.

At the interactive meeting, the DGP laid emphasis on:

  • Minimum use of force while tackling law and order
  • Not being over-reactive.
  • Not acting emotionally.
  • Communicating with senior officers when faced with difficulty.
  • Handling the situation tactfully, even using persuasion.
  • Always taking precautionary measures well ahead of time.
  • Always trying to enjoy the confidence of senior officers.
  • Always working with professionalism and self-confidence.
  • Never imposing authority at any point of time.
  • Always laying emphasis on people-friendly policing.
  • Serve people through basic policing.
