Bargarh: Some unidentified miscreants allegedly looted donation box and gold and silver ornaments from Durga temple at Atabira in the district on Friday.
According to sources, when temple priest Dharani Mishra came to perform the rituals of the deities in the morning, he found the main gate opened and the ornaments of the idols missing. He informed the temple management officials in this regard.
On being informed, police went to the spot and started investigation into the matter.
“I came to the temple at 5 am to perform daily puja. The main gate was opened. When I went inside, I found the ornaments of the deities missing,” said the temple priest.
“Durga temple, which was established in 1997, has never been targeted by miscreants. This is for the first time that the temple has been looted,” said a member of advisory committee of the temple.
Since the temple is located near the Atabira police station, it is suspected to be a well-planned burglary.
