Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECOR) has deployed drones to keep a round-the-clock vigil on the entire territory under its jurisdiction.
These drones have been deployed on the instructions of RPF officers to optimise the RPF productivity and effectiveness.
As per reports, amidst the nationwide lockdown, it is not possible for RPF personnel to guard the open railway tracks and valuable assets of the Indian Railways effectively. Thus, the ECoR has introduced the concept of patrolling through drones.
These drone cameras will be operating with the help of State/Airport and Naval authorities.
The drones will capture the images of the tracks from suitable heights so that the image and video that reach the operator are clear enough to take an action.
Besides real time monitoring, the authorities will be storing the data to create a video library for future references.
At the same time, the operator and RPF officers can use motor or push trolley to cover an area and immediately send a message to the control room for immediate action and then, information can also be passed to the local police.
The drones have already become operational at Vishakhapatnam, Khorda Road and Bhubaneswar.
Soon, they will be introduced at Puri, Cuttack and other places as per their necessity.
