Bhubaneswar: The RPF Cyber Cell of East Coast Railway (ECoR) was inaugurated by the General Manager, ECoR, Vidya Bhushan on Thursday.
High-end hardware and software have been installed and highly-trained RPF personnel deployed in the cyber cell to collect digital evidence and use cyber investigative techniques.
Bhushan said that the cyber cell will help in better detection and prosecution of increasing white-collar crimes that involve hi-tech technologies and IT systems. He also emphasized on more technological training to security personnel to tackle with the increasing online fraud cases.
The cyber cell will be able to detect unscrupulous persons cornering reserved berths in advance by passing the process of reservation using unauthorized software/applications. This existing unethical process forces needy passengers to procure tickets at exorbitantly high prices.
The cell will also help in tracking criminals who run away after committing crime in Railway premises such as theft of property, dashing of level crossing gates etc.
Data on crimes — such as crime against women and children, narcotics, smuggling of forest products in Railway stations, trains and premises etc. — will be shared with other law-enforcement agencies too.
