Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday raided multiple places linked to former Odisha Minister and senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Prafulla Samal in Bhadrak and Bhubaneswar in connection with an alleged Rs 20 crore land scam.
According to sources, simultaneous raids are being carried out at ten places, including the houses of the legislator at Sabana Bazaar and former principal of Barapada School of Engineering & Technology at Apartibindha in Bhadrak.
The raids are also being linked to alleged financial irregularities at Barapada Engineering College in Bhadrak. The Bhandaripokhari MLA and his son Prayaskanti Samal, who is also a office-bearer of state BJD, are accused of having siphoned off funds to a tune of crores of rupees from the college. Prayaskanti allegedly bought more than 20 cars with the engineering college money and sold them. It was also alleged that his domestic expenditure is met from the college coffers.
The ED officials is yet to issue any official statement on the raid.
