Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will be probing the financial transactions in the cheating cases involving Ramesh Chandra Swain, a matric fail fake doctor from Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
According to sources, the ED has registered a case in this regard and sought information on all cheating cases registered against him by the Commissionerate Police.
Swain was arrested in February 2022 on charges of marrying at least 18 women by impersonating as both a doctor and deputy director in the Union health ministry and swindling their riches. He not only made money by conning well-educated women but also cheated banks, students and job aspirants. He fraudulently collected Rs 11 lakh from the Gurdwara officials in Punjab on the promise of giving them permission from the Ministry to start a medical college.
Ernakulam police had arrested Swain in 2006 for cheating banks to the tune of Rs 2 crore by impersonating as a central government employee and submitting fake documents to avail loans. He was also arrested by Hyderabad Police in 2010 for allegedly duping youths on the promise of providing them MBBS seats and jobs.
The Commissionerate Police had formed a special team, comprising officials from Mahila Police, Cyber Cell and Anti-Fraud Cell, to probe the case.
