Cuttack: The Muslims in Odisha will celebrate Eid-Al-Fitr on April 11, announced Anjuman Islamia Chand Committee in Cuttack on April 11.
The Committee made the announcement after a meeting on Tuesday. The decision to celebrate Eid on Thursday as the moon could not be sighted on Monday. As per Islamic practice, sighting the moon is mandatory for celebration of the festival.
“As per the tradition, if the moon is not seen on 29th day of the holy month of Ramadan, we fast on 30th day and celebrate the Eid-Al-Fitr next day,” said president of the Committee.
However, Eid will be celebrated in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday as the moon was sighted on Tuesday. Normally, the festival is celebrated in India a day after the desert country.
