Baripada: An elderly man died and three persons were injured in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district after their thatched house collapsed early morning on Sunday.
The mishap took place in Badbila village of Madheikocha panchayat in Bijatala block of Mayurbhanj district. The deceased was identified as Mangala Pingua, said sources.
While the injured people were shifted to Rairangpur sub-divisional hospital, Bijatala’s block development officer Bansidhar Khosla rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
The BDO shifted 30 villagers to Badbila Anganwadi and school buildings in view of heavy rains in the region.
Though a red alert about heavy rains was issued to Mayurbhanj, the people of Badbila could not receive the message due to lack of communication, the sources added.
The people of the village affected by torrential rains sought help from the district administration.
