Angul: An elderly woman died after being attacked by a wild elephant at a village in Odisha’s Angul district here on Saturday.
The incident took place at Maranda village under the jurisdiction of Bantala police station in the district.
The woman, identified as Jhataka Behera, had gone to the backyard of her house to pluck mangoes this morning when the elephant attacked her, soruces said.
The woman was trampled to death by the wild wlephant, which had sneaked into the village in search of food.
On being informed, forest department personnel rushed to the spot and took stock of the sitution.
It may be noted here that Angul district has witnessed a rise in jumbo attacks. As many as 15 people have reportedly been killed in elephant attacks in Angul since January, this year.
