Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the declaration of the schedule for Lok Sabha elections 2024, Election Commissioner of India Arun Goel has resigned from his post.
According to a notification issued by Ministry of Law and Justice on Saturday, the President of India has approved the resignation of Goel.
“In pursuance of clause (1) of Section 11 of The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023, the President is pleased to accept the resignation tendered by Arun Goel, Election Commissioner with effect from the March 9, 2024,” the notification said.
It may be noted that Goel was supposed to succeed as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) after the current CEC Rajiv Kumar’s retirement in February 2025.
