Sundargarh: A wild elephant was rescued after it fell into a muddy pond near Bhadrapada in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Sunday.
The incident took place under Sundargarh Sadar Forest Range. The wild animal was rescued with the help of JCB crane in the morning. It is suspected that the elephant visited the place in search of food and got trapped into the muddy pond.
After the elephant was spotted in the pond, Forest department personnel and the local people tried to drag it out of the slurry pond but failed to do so.
A JCB machine was later pressed into service and the elephant brought out. Forest department staff allowed safe passage to the elephant to its habitat in a nearby jungle.
