Baripada: Forest Department personnel rescued an elephant that had fallen into a 20-feet-deep well at Tembatola village under Bangiriposhi block in Mayurbhanj district late Saturday.
According to sources, the villagers were trying to chase away a herd of eight elephants that entered the village late Saturday night when one of them fell into the open well.
On being informed, the Forest Department personnel reached the spot and with the help of a JCB machine, rescued the elephant from the 20-feet-deep well in about five hours.
The elephant sustained minor injuries after falling into the well, said the sources.
