Cuttack: A wild elephant was critically injured after allegedly sustaining gunshot wounds in the district on Tuesday.
The elephant was found writhing in pain due to the wound sustained in its trunk near a forest in Narasinghapur near Athgarh in the district. This was informed by Badamba MLA Debi Prasad Mishra in his Facebook post.
The MLA said he was informed by youth leader Nirmal Jena that some villagers spotted the injured elephant. “Veterinary doctors, on being informed by the villages, have attended to the tusker. But the wild animal needs treatment by experts to survive,” he said.
“I have apprised Forest minister Pradip Amat of the incident and requested him to rush in veterinary experts from Nandankanan Zoological Park near Bhubaneswar to the spot for treatment of the tusker. I have also told Cuttack district collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani for his official intervention into the matter,” Mishra said in the post.
