Bhubaneswar: In a good news for visitors to Nandankanan Zoological Park near Bhubaneswar, the enclosure for hoolock gibbons was opened for public view on Wednesday.
At a special function on the day, Pradip Kumar Amat, Minister of Forest and Environment inaugurated the enclosure which houses two hoolock gibbons in the zoo. The zoo authorities had brought the gibbons from Itanagar zoo in Arunachal Pradesh in an animal exchange programme in July.
The minister also inaugurated a souvenir shop, a water lily pond and quarters for Forest Guards deployed in the zoo on the occasion. Bhubaneswar North MLA Sushant Rout, Jatni MLA Suresh Routray, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) SK Popli and other senior officials were present at the function.
The zoo now houses 4,000 animals of 161 species in 219 enclosures. It has other attractions including boat ride in the lake, cable car and toy train for the visitors.
