Nayagarh: Members of an enforcement squad were allegedly attacked by stone mafia during a raid on illegal mining operations in Ranpur area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
One member of the enforcement team from Ranpur Tehsil sustained grievous injuries in the attack, sources said on Thursday.
Acting on an information about illegal stone mining in the area, the enforcement squad had launched an operation at Kusapalla village under Patia gram panchayat of Ranpur block in the district when the mafia offered a stiff resistance.
Members of the team, led by Ranpur Additional Tehsildar, were allegedly attacked with sticks and iron rods. The mafia also threw stones at the officials and fought with them.
Following a complaint by Ranpur Tehsildar, Chandpur police registered a case and launched a hunt to nab the miscreants who are on the run after the incident.
The injured was admitted to the hospital for treatment and his condition was stated to be stable.
