Cuttack: The eviction of encroachers and trading establishments on the premises of SCB Medical College and Hospital here and its periphery began on Monday.
The Cuttack district administration and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) started the drive following Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s announcement for the expansion and mordernisation of the premier hospital.
According to reports, the CMC authorities used loudspeakers to request around 200 families to vacate the temporary houses and government quarters on the hospital premises. Besides, people and traders on the hospital periphery were also asked to shift.
On Sunday, Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari and Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chaini had visited the area to be acquired by the state government for the expansion work.
The collector informed that the district administration has identified an area near Nimapur on the opposite side of the Jobra barrage to rehabilitate the affected families.
