Bhubaneswar: In a bid to set an example for others, Excise officials destroyed a huge quantity of ‘duplicate’ liquor in front of a shop in Bhubaneswar where those were seized on Monday.
Following a tip-off, the Excise officials conducted a raid on the government-licensed liquor shop at Baramunda in the city, sources said.
During the raid, the officials found that the shop staff were engaged in preparing duplicate liquor by opening the IMFL bottles and adding water to it. Later, those watered IMFL bottles of reputed brands were sold to the customers.
The Excise officials seized the spurious liquor bottles, caps, hologram and other materials from the shop. They destroyed those bottles in front of the shop with a JCB machine in order to make the customers aware of the misdeed.
The officials also sent the samples from the liquor bottles to laboratory to ascertain whether any toxic chemical was also added or not. They waned the shop owner of exemplarily action by arresting him and cancelling the liquor licence.
